In May 2024 BHBus was taken down by a cyberattack. Rather than patching the compromised site, I exported the content and rebuilt the portal and the forum from scratch on a dedicated server I manage, on current software, and moved the forum onto its own subdomain without losing a single ranking. The brief was recovery on a fixed budget rather than a redesign, so the build stayed deliberately pragmatic. Both have been under my maintenance since.
In May 2024 the site was compromised in a cyberattack. The portal and the forum were both running on outdated software with known vulnerabilities, and the forum sat in a subfolder at bhbus.ba/forum, tangled together with the portal on infrastructure that could no longer be trusted. The client was working with the budget available at that moment, so the brief was clear: repair the damage and get the site safely back online. A design showcase was not the job.
Patching a compromised install and hoping for the best was not an option here. Instead of swapping the theme on the hacked site, I exported the content and built the portal again from scratch on a clean WordPress install, on a dedicated server I manage. Design was deliberately kept pragmatic: Blocksy Pro with the native Gutenberg editor rather than a custom build, so the budget went into security, migration and a site the client can maintain, not into pixels. The forum got the same treatment, rebuilt and brought up to the current SMF release, then moved out of the bhbus.ba/forum subfolder onto its own subdomain at forum.bhbus.ba, with full redirects so no links or search rankings were lost, and Search Console cleaned up afterwards.
Within 48 hours the site was back online on a dedicated server, with the infection removed. The portal was then rebuilt and the forum moved without losing search rankings. The redesigned portal and forum relaunched on 5 August 2024, announced by the client on their own site, with a layout that finally works properly on phones. Both run on a dedicated server under my ongoing maintenance.
